Sustainability
Initiatives for the environment
We have established an environmental policy and conduct group-wide activities to support environmental conservation. In particular, we are promoting the operation of an environmental management system (ISO 14001) at the Toda Factory, our printing factory in Toda City, Saitama Prefecture, as well as energy-saving and other environmentally friendly initiatives in offices.

Initiatives to reduce environmental impact
Circular economy
Reduction of paper reserves
We are promoting the modularization of paper to reduce the amount of paper reserves.
We are promoting activities to reduce the time required for color matching in printing and preparation time in bookbinding, and we are reducing the amount of paper reserves.
Promotion of reduction, reuse and recycling of materials
We are working to reduce the amount of paper, ink, and cleaning fluid used.
We are also working on reuse by distributing paper free of charge to ward offices, city halls, public facilities, and local schools and kindergartens.
We recycle the paper trimmings generated during the binding process, as well as aluminum printing plates, and we maintain a zero-emissions rate of over 99%.

Pollution
Reduction of oil and waste liquid emissions
We have reduced the amount of waste oil and waste liquid discharged by changing printing press cleaning equipment, minimizing the amount of ink used, adopting processless CTP, and concentrating and separating CTP processing wastewater.
Reducing the amount of organic compounds discharged by UV printing machines
We use inks that do not contain petroleum solvents in their ink components, and we are striving to reduce the amount of organic compounds discharged.
Climate change issues
Quantifying the amount of CO2 emissions from the production of printed material
As part of measures to address global warming caused by greenhouse gases, there is growing need for clients to monitor the impact of business activities on the environment. We calculate the amount of CO2 emissions produced during the life cycle of printed materials (from material production and procurement to manufacturing, delivery, distribution, and disposal/recycling), and provide this information to our clients upon request.
Response to the CDP Climate Change Questionnaire
We responded to a questionnaire from CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), an international NGO, and disclosed our initiatives regarding climate change and greenhouse gas reduction.
Reduction of power consumption in our factory and offices
All lighting at the Toda Factory has been converted to LEDs, and we are also in the process of converting the lighting in offices to LEDs.
Based on information from the power monitoring system, we monitor daily demand values, predict future power usage, and if the target value is exceeded, we control the air conditioning based on priority levels set in advance to control power usage.
We are striving to raise awareness of energy conservation by turning off lights during lunch breaks in areas that do not affect production, and by turning off lights automatically at 8:00 p.m.
Environmental conservation activities
Continuing PRONEXUS Forest activities
Since 2011, we have been providing financial support to a fund for Doshi Forest Development conducted in Doshi Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, and maintaining a target area inside the village set aside for a PRONEXUS Forest, with many employees participating in volunteer activities such as thinning.
Although the recent COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult to conduct activities in the field, we are preparing to start activities in new target areas.
Raising environmental conservation awareness through greening of factory exterior walls
With employees in the gardening club playing a central role, we are working to green the exterior walls and flowerbeds around the Toda Factory, and are fostering awareness of environmental conservation.

Certification, etc.
Active purchasing of FSC®-certified paper
We recognize that the sustainable use of valuable forest resources is a significant issue, and we are endeavoring to purchase FSC®-certified paper.
We also actively recommend it to our clients, and the amount used is increasing year by year.
* FSC®-certified paper is paper made from wood from well-managed forests.

Registration of certification of Toda Factory as a Green Printing Factory
PRONEXUS positions responding to climate change and environmental issues as a management issue. At our only factory, the Toda Factory, we operate an environmental management system (ISO 14001: 2015), and we are also promoting environmentally friendly initiatives from a higher perspective to address environmental issues such as recent climate change. As a result, it was certified as a Green Printing Factory by the Japan Federation of Printing Industries in December 2023.
